The year is, as always, flying by. How is it July already? I wasn’t done with June! Ok, I kind of was, but really, it seems like as soon as we get used to a month, it’s over and we’re on to the next one! Since we’re now more than half-way through the year, I thought it was time to take a look at how things are going so far.
I started blogging more, which was one of my big goals. I’ve begun increasing my readership, if a bit more slowly than I had planned. I stalled a bit last month after my husband’s car accident, but I feel like I’m beginning to get back on track now.
I still need to increase my income. I like my day job, but it doesn’t really pay enough once all the deductions are taken out (taxes, social security, health insurance, 401k). I would like to have more of a gap between my income and expenses, but in the right direction this time — extra savings, not stretching to make ends meet.
I started trying to budget in January, but wasn’t really doing it properly, or sticking to it, until June. That went better, but I’m still working out the details/kinks.
- Blog weekly, including at least one affiliate post
- Work on “super-secret” project (I can’t wait to announce it!)
- Re-start home organization project (offices especially, but it all needs help)
- Start teaching my older daughter, who just got her learner’s permit yesterday, to drive
- Stick to my July budget (so far, so good)
This has not been an easy year. I don’t expect the second half to suddenly be smooth sailing, but I do expect it to be better. For the first time in a long time, maybe ever, I feel like I’m taking control of my life. That’s what keeps me going.
