What are my goals this month? Why set goals at all? Based on experience I meet only about half the goals I set for myself, so why bother? For starters, I carry out 0% of the goals I don’t set–those things I think about in sentences that start “I should–.” In addition, at any given time I could think of 10-15 “I should” and research shows that it’s much more effective to focus on 1-5 goals instead of spreading yourself too thin on a bunch more. Finally, I hope that with the practice of setting goals and meeting at least some of them, my percentage of goals met will increase over time. With all that in mind, here are my top 4 goals for April:
- Create an accurate and up-to-date picture of my finances. That to me includes income, retirement accounts, monthly expenses and debts. While I do have a general idea of where everything stands, I want to know all specifics in detail.
- Get M. and H. both on a stricter schedule so they get enough sleep and so that I have more time at night to pursue other projects besides bedtime.
- Make all of my doctor and dental appointments, which I have been putting off for ages.
- More actively seek freelance assignments.
