30 Day Blog ChallengeI woke up this morning to my 8-year-old M. calling me to say that she was awake.  She had CCD this morning, but it snowed heavily last night so as she got dressed I called her CCD teacher to make sure there was still class.  Her teacher said that there was still CCD, but that she was snowed in and wouldn’t be there.  I got dressed while M. brushed her teeth, and then we went downstairs so we could each eat a donut, and so I could brush her hair.

My 8-year-old took this one. I think it’s the best of the bunch.

We bundled up in boots, coats, hats and gloves, and headed out to the car.  I cleaned the snow off of it while she sat in the car staying warm.  Once that was done, we headed out to the church.  Driving up the road, we talked about how pretty the snow looked, white and heavy everywhere.  We had to swerve to avoid a large limb in the road, but continued on.  We were fine, until we came to a pine tree down across the road.  We had to turn around then to go back.  We tried to go by another road, but that was also a mess, so we headed home.  No CCD today.

IMG_1080When we got home, we stopped to take a couple of pictures of the snow, then got the mail from yesterday, and the newspaper.  We brought my mom’s mail and paper downstairs to her, and she gave us each a warm blueberry muffin to take upstairs.  M. only ate half of hers, but she also finished her donut.  I had coffee, my muffin and a half of another donut.  She watched TV while eating, and I watched a bit with her.  I also filled and ran the dishwasher and started laundry.

After breakfast, she read her school book.  She was behind because she had been out sick, so she needed to finish it this weekend to catch up.  I worked on this blog, and then did our taxes online.  We owed money again, but it wasn’t as much as we thought it might be, so we were able to pay it right away.IMG_1081

I went out again to pick up some prescriptions at CVS.  The road where we had come across the pine tree was still blocked, and I suspect there was more than just that one small tree down.  I took another route, this time able to get through, and went to CVS.  I also stopped at the store to pick up something for dessert.  I decided on a brownie mix.  I got Pita bread to go with our humus and some lunch meat for M’s lunches this week.

When I got home, M. wanted to read some books to me in her room, so she picked two and I picked two, and she read to me.  By the end though, I was so tired I had to take a nap.  It was 4:00 by then and I only planned to sleep for an hour and then start dinner, but I ended up sleeping for 2 1/2 hours.  When I woke up, Chris had made snacks for us all since dinner was obviously going to be late.

I started to cook the chicken I had thawed while Chris took M. up for her bath, and the chicken smelled terrible.  It had gone bad, either before I bought it or after, I’m not sure which, but it was not usable.  I ended up having to buy dinner at Burger King so we could eat soon, and I had my older daughter, H. and M. make the brownies together.

IMG_1082I came home with the food, and the brownies were in the oven with the timer going.  We all ate, and after a brownie it was time for M. to go to bed.  Tooth brushing and bedtime, and then I came back down to balance my checkbook and this month’s budget, and then work on this post.

It is now 11:51 p.m.  Once I am done here, I will clean up the last of the things I was working on and head to bed.  I am exhausted, despite the nap, but today was not bad.

Back to work tomorrow. School for the kids unless it gets snowed out.

Good night.
